She’s been researching and writing about white supremacy, white nationalism, racism, and religious intolerance for over 11 years. Her award-winning book, Gospel According to the Klan: The KKK’s Appeal to Protestant America, 1915-1930 (University Press of Kansas, 2011), is the first to analyze the white religious nationalism of the 1920s Klan and the continued legacy of their particular form of white nationalism today. Dr. Lubin is an adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology at Howard University and a researcher and lecturer on health policy and health disparities. She has led strategic projects and initiatives addressing an array of social and policy topics including housing, education, civil rights, criminal justice and public health. A former Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Public Health Fellow, Dr. Lubin is an expert on minority health issues and the intersection of race and social policy. She has written extensively about health policy and equity and received a grant from the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library for her research on race and the politics of health reform. Pia is the director of Humanitarian Assistance at Global Communities and has led their response to a variety of crises, including the West African Ebola epidemic, the 2014 war in Gaza, and the ongoing Syrian conflict. A seasoned humanitarian assistance professional, Ms. Wanek has more than 12 years of experience in the donor community and the NGO world. She worked for USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance for six years, predominantly on East and Central Africa emergency response programs, and supported the civil-military portfolio at the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration and strategic planning and policy development at the Consular Affairs bureau at the State Department.
