Tarah Demant has over twenty years of experience in human rights, with an emphasis in gender justice. She currently heads Amnesty International USA’s work to combat authoritarian practices. She has advocated for human rights at the United Nations, across the United States government, at the state and local level, and with many foreign governments. She holds a Ph.D. in English and a Graduate Certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her analysis has been featured by The New York Times, CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Time, USA Today, PRI, The Nation, and other media.
