Bio

Susan Hackley is Managing Director of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School (PON) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a world-renowned center for the study of negotiation and conflict resolution. As a consortium of faculty, students, and associates from Harvard University, MIT, Tufts University, and other Boston-area schools, PON seeks innovative ways to increase public awareness of successful strategies for dealing with conflict.

In her role as chief administrative and financial officer, Ms. Hackley oversees all operations, including education programs, seminars, and collaborative research projects. She also manages the publication of a variety of books and teaching materials and serves as publisher of the monthly Negotiation Newsletter.

In addition to her management responsibilities, Ms. Hackley has given talks and taught negotiation skills around the world, including groups in Hong Kong and mainland China, Italy, Spain, France, and Slovakia. Susan is Chair of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, a coalition of diverse organizations working together to build sustainable peace and security worldwide. She also serves on the board of the Alliance for Peacebuilding.


Prior to joining PON as Managing Director, Ms. Hackley was a co-founder and acting Chief Executive Officer of Givenation.com, an Internet philanthropy portal enabling people to connect with causes and make charitable contributions online. She also served as Communications Director for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and frequently spoke to the broadcast and print media. She has also worked as a policy analyst and speechwriter for several candidates.

Ms. Hackley is an accomplished writer and photographer with work published in a wide range of publications, including the Los Angeles Times, National Geographic Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, and Parents Magazine. She is also the co-author of guidebooks to wilderness Alaska. Currently, Ms. Hackley is a frequent contributor to the Negotiation newsletter, which is distributed to the legal, business, and social policymaking community.
