Rossana D’Antonio is an Assistant Deputy Director for Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, the largest department of public works in the nation. Only the second female to achieve the position of Assistant Deputy Director in the history of the Department, Ms. D’Antonio is well aware that she serves as a role model to other female engineers in her organization and in the engineering industry. She is responsible for directing the technical design of all public infrastructure facilities including highway, flood control and bridge structures. With 24 years of broad based experience, Ms. D’Antonio has extensive background in many disciplines of engineering, management, operations and business processes.
She has successfully established herself as an expert in a STEM-related profession, navigating the political environment of county government, providing public works infrastructure services with dwindling resources, and addressing communities with varying interests. Ms. D’Antonio created the Department’s Innovation Lab (iLab) with a mission to incorporate innovation and implement sustainable design practices in public infrastructure.
Ms. D’Antonio was selected as a geotechnical expert for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Earthquake Investigation Team following devastating earthquakes in El Salvador. She co-authored the “Lifeline Performance of El Salvador Earthquakes of January 13 and February 13, 2001 Monograph” which assisted the government of El Salvador in the rebuilding efforts. Ms. D’Antonio also co-authored several papers for technical publications and has made presentations at technical conferences.
A 24-year Department veteran, Ms. D’Antonio received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Fresno State and an MBA with emphasis in leadership and organizational development from Pepperdine University. She holds dual registrations in the State of California in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering and credentials as an Envision Sustainability Professional with the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure, a nationally recognized organization for civil infrastructure.
Ms. D’Antonio believes strongly in giving back to the profession. She has served on the Board of Directors for the ASCE and is an active member of Society of Women Engineers and American Public Works Association (APWA). Ms. D’Antonio also serves on several committees for the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors. She is a passionate advocate for equal opportunity in the workplace through recruitment, mentoring, outreach and diverse advancement. She is co-founder of the Department’s Women’s Leadership Council where she tirelessly works on implementing initiatives that empower women. As an advocate of increasing female representation in the STEM fields, she also makes presentations to high school and college students.
Ms. D’Antonio created a Women’s Leadership Conference for the County of Los Angeles with a mission to inspire and empower women. Now in its fifth year, this conference attracts over 600 professional women annually, highlighting the accomplishments of successful females in leadership. She has been featured as a guest in radio, and is published in print and online.
