Bio

Ellen Bravo, former director of 9to5, National Association of Working Women, directs the Family Values @ Work Consortium, a network of state coalitions working for paid leave (www.familyvaluesatwork.org). Her most recent book is a novel, "Again and Again," that involves campus date rape and Beltway politics. She is also the author of Taking on the Big Boys, or Why Feminism is Good for Families, Business and the Nation (Feminist Press, 2007). Among her other publications are The 9to5 Guide to Combating Sexual Harassment, The Job/Family Challenge: A 9to5 Guide (Not for Women Only,) a report on Quality Part-Time Options in Wisconsin, and an article in the American Prospect's "Mother Lode" issue.

Ellen served on the bi-partisan Commission on Leave appointed by Congress to study the impact of the FMLA. She also co-chaired the Economic Sufficiency Task Force of the Wisconsin Women = Prosperity project led by Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton. A leading spokeswoman on working women¹s issues, Ellen's talks have been described as "moving, witty and sometimes bawdy." Among her commendations are a Ford Foundation Visionary award and the Francis Perkins "Intelligence and Courage" award. She lives in Milwaukee with her husband; they raised two sons.

From 2004-2007, Bravo taught Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, including masters level classes on Family-Friendly Workplaces and Sexual Harassment. She has been quoted in publications as diverse as the New York Times, the The Wall Street Journal, Parenting Magazine and Glamour. She has also appeared on such television programs as the "ABC Evening News" and CNN's "Crossfire." In addition to her own blog she has written op eds published in a variety of newspapers as well as articles for the Women's Media Center, Women's eNews and Huffington Post.
