Bio

Courtney J. Boddie is an expert on working with urban youth in school and community-based programs, creative youth development and early childhood education, and as a cultural arts partner of the NYC Department of Education, an arts advocate for direct student services and teacher professional development to promote creativity and public access to the arts.

As Director of Education, Ms. Boddie oversees education outreach at The New Victory Theater: bringing 40,000 students from over 200 NYC schools to experience high-quality live performing arts; providing 1,300 free performing arts-based classroom workshops for students and professional development for classroom teachers; and training 2,000 NYC PreK For All teachers. During her tenure, The New Victory Theater received the Americans for the Arts Outstanding Education program award (2008) and a special Drama Desk Award (2012) for “...nurturing a love of theater in young people.” Board of directors for The Association of Teaching Artists *(President 2015-2017); editorial board of Teaching Artist Journal; NYC Arts-in-Education Roundtable Teaching Artist Committee. Adjunct faculty at New York University and The New School. Ms. Boddie is the creator/host of "Teaching Artistry with Courtney J. Boddie" podcast, Co-Artistic Director of a space between. She has sat on various panels in the field such as New York University, Grants Makers in the Arts, Lincoln Center Education, Nationals Guild for Community Education, Hunter College, Department of Youth Community Development, etc. Presented at numerous conferences including: American Alliance of Theater Educators, National Council of Teachers of English, Americans for the Arts and Arts Advocacy Day, Educational Theatre Association. Ms. Boddie has been featured in print, broadcast and online media to articulate the importance of, and the impact of performing arts and arts education on the lives of urban youth. She holds a Master’s in Educational Theatre from New York University.
