Bio

Anne Voigts specializes in appellate litigation before all levels of state and federal appeals courts. As a partner in our Appellate, Constitutional and Administrative Law practice, Anne represents clients in appellate litigation in a wide variety of criminal and civil matters. She also frequently advises trial teams on legal issues and motion practice, before, during and after trial, and counsels clients on rapidly changing, complex legal issues.

Before joining our firm in 2016, Anne served more than 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney handling appeals out of the Northern and Central Districts of California. During her tenure, Anne briefed nearly 80 cases and argued more than 50 times before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She also tried two jury cases, advised trial teams on legal issues arising in the district courts, and served as an appellate liaison to the Northern District's Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Unit.

Previously, Anne was a litigation associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, where she focused on litigation in the U.S. and California Supreme Courts, as well as federal and state appellate and trial courts. She worked on matters involving unfair competition claims, antitrust, civil procedure, First Amendment, campaign finance reform and defamation.

By appointment of the Chief Judge, Anne served as the Chair of the Ninth Circuit’s Appellate Representatives. She was the lead editor of the Appellate Lawyer Representatives' Practice Guide and has frequently lectured on effective appellate advocacy. She also has been a Lecturer in Law at the University of Southern California and an Adjunct Lecturer in Constitutional Criminal Procedure at Boalt Hall School of Law.

Anne was a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, as well as an extern to then-Judge Sonia Sotomayor, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
