Tarah Demant is the Director of the Gender, Sexuality, and Identity Program at Amnesty International USA (AIUSA), where she leads AIUSA’s work on women’s rights, LGBTI rights, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and sexual and reproductive rights. She also serves as the co-chair of the Coalition to End Violence Against Women and Girls Globally. Tarah brings over ten years of experience in global gender issues and previously served as a primary expert and strategist for AIUSA’s women’s human rights program and as a state campaign coordinator for Amnesty’s Stop Violence Against Women Campaign. She has also worked with the USHN Network and as a professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and English.  She holds a Ph.D. in English and a Graduate Certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, and a B.A. in Spanish and English from Pacific Lutheran University.
