Sunny Slaughter, Principal of Sunny Slaughter Consulting, LLC, based inside the beltway of DC, has been called the Master Connector and Olivia Pope of Crime with an eclectic mix of consultancy and expertise as a law enforcement instructor, litigation consultant, public health policy expert, DEI strategist, policy writer, and media commentator.
Sunny is a federal law enforcement instructor, training coordinator, consultant, and SME formerly with the US Department of Homeland Security Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, currently an instructor with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Executive Leadership Seminar, and works with agencies and departments throughout the US.
Sunny delivers her signature facilitation engagement, "CRIED," for law enforcement leaders—behind the badge and within the walls—working to address complex nuances of police culture, community, and conversations with those committed to public safety. Sunny uses her "L3—lens, language, and law" as a litigation expert and consultant to address high-profile topics with law enforcement agencies, law firms, the media, and others. Public safety, public health, and public relations—from police encounters, use-of-force, misconduct, officer-involved shootings, standard operations, best practices, community violence, women in policing, communication and reform.
Sunny completed several specialized training programs, most notably the Drug Taskforce Supervisor School and Hate and Bias Crimes Course for sworn law enforcement only. She was a member of the first DHS Human Trafficking committee, currently known as the DHS Blue Campaign, and as a Domestic Violence Instructor. She has facilitated training for more than 15,000 professionals in law enforcement and across professional disciplines and currently working as a law enforcement expert and consultant for the Epilepsy Foundation.
Sunny Slaughter is a globally recognized and highly sought-after expert. She has focused her time, efforts, and attention on addressing the world's most egregious and heinous crimes against persons, particularly crimes involving children and minority populations—human trafficking and exploitation, commercial sexual abuse material, missing persons, and domestic and sexual violence. She has conducted training at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, served on Human Trafficking Taskforce in Alabama, Georgia, and Washington, DC, served as the keynote speaker for the New Mexico Child Advocacy Center Conference, US Attorney's Offices in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, the Governor's Office in Maryland, the Roman Catholic Archdioceses of Trinidad and Tobago in Trinidad and Tobago, as a consultant and trainer for the Office for Victims of Crime TTA, and as an expert for the US Surgeon General's Office and more.
Sunny has served as Co-chair of the National Opioid Caucus and Co-chair of the Violence as a Public Health Issue Committee for the eight states in the Southeast Region under the US Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Minority Health. Sunny provides Expert Witness Reports, case reviews, witness preparation, research, and evaluation for state and federal cases for the prosecution, defense, and private law firms.
The Obama Whitehouse has recognized Sunny for her work. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition, most notably, the 2020 Community Service Award from the APHA Black Caucus of Health Workers, The Power Belle Hat Award from Harry Belafonte/SCLF. She is a fellow of Morehouse School of Medicine/Satcher Health Leadership Institute. Sunny was featured in Women Leadership Magazine USA as one of DC's top 25 Women Business Leaders in 2020 and 2021.
