The Katie Halper Show takes a humorous look at the news, politics, pop culture, and the arts through news segments and conversations with writers, journalists, activists, artists and political comedians. Tune in for segments like "Excuse You," "Right Wing Erotica," "Family Values," and “The Sixty-Second Rant."
Born and raised on the mean streets of New York City’s Upper West Side, Katie Halper is a comedian, writer, filmmaker and history teacher based in New York.
A co-founder and member of the comedy ensemble Laughing Liberally, Katie has performed at Town Hall, Symphony Space, The Culture Project, D.C. Comedy Festival, and The Nation Magazine Cruise. Katie's writing and videos have appeared in Salon, The New York Times, Comedy Central, The Nation Magazine, Jezebel, Guernica, Alternet, Raw Story, Feministing and more. Katie appears regularly on HuffPost Live as well as MSNBC, RT, the Alan Colmes Show, Sirius radio (which hung up on her once). The National Review calls comedian Katie “cute and somewhat brainy.”
Katie co-produced Tim Robbins’s film Embedded, (Venice Film Festival, Sundance Channel); Estela Bravo’s Free to Fly (Havana Film Festival, LA Latino Film Festival); was outreach director for The Take, the Naomi Klein/Avi Lewis documentary about Argentine workers (Toronto & Venice Film Festivals, Film Forum); co-directed New Yorkers Remember the Spanish Civil War, a video for Museum of the City of NY exhibit.
Katie went to Florida in 2008 with Judy Blume and Letty Cottin Pogrebin to tell Jews to vote for Obama and wrote the viral online videos Women for McCain, Jews for McCain and Gays for McCain.
Katie’s latest project is her award-winning film, COMMIE CAMP, a documentary about Camp Kinderland, the summer camp the Right loves to hate.
Katie went to the Dalton School, where she has taught history, and Wesleyan University, where she learned that "labels are for jars."
