As Senior Fellow at the Center for Social Inclusion, Deepa Iyer provides analysis, commentary and scholarship on the ways to build racial equity and solidarity in light of the rapid demographic transformation in America’s neighborhoods, schools and workplaces. Deepa is an attorney who has worked on civil and immigrant rights issues in the non-profit and governmental sectors for 15 years. Deepa’s first book, We Too Sing America: South Asian, Arab, Muslim and Sikh Immigrants Shape Our Multiracial Future, was published in November 2015. Deepa’s opinion editorials on issues ranging from the post 9/11 backlash to immigration reform to anti-Black racism have appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Al-Jazeera America, and The Nation.

A mosque in Quebec, Canada, was the site of a shooting that left six dead and has been described as an act of terrorism against Muslims by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. To discuss the rise of Islamophobia and violence against Muslims, we FEATURE Noura Erakat. Noura is a human rights attorney and writer. She is currently the Freedman Teaching Fellow at Temple Law School and the US-based Legal Advocacy Consultant for the Badil Resource Center for Palestinian Refugee and Residency Rights. Noura is a frequent commentator on the Palestinian-Israel conflict, US Middle East foreign policy, and international human rights in the Middle East. With Trump's already shaky relationship with the press, this raises questions about press freedom and we FEATURE Dr. Jennifer Hoewe. Jennifer is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism at The University of Alabama. Jennifer's research examines the social and psychological effects of media consumption on individuals' beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors as well as public opinion. Specifically, she studies the media’s ability to create and perpetuate stereotypes and in-group, out-group relationships. Jennifer’s teaching areas include media effects (psychology), news writing and reporting (journalism), political communication, and journalism/media ethics as well as the relationship between the media and politics, race/ethnicity, and religion. Deborah is the Director of the Stanford Center on Ethics at Stanford University School of Law, where she also serves as the Ernest W. McFarland Professor of Law. Professor Rhode is widely recognized as a legal expert on subjects including gender and the law, ethics and professional responsibility in the legal profession, as well as the role that these issues play in public policy. Professor Rhode has written and lectured extensively around the nation on these subjects. In 1998, Professor Rhode served as Senior Investigative Counsel, Minority Staff for the Committee on the Judiciary in the U.S. House of Representatives.
