Bio

A leading national voice on family/workplace issues and moms’ rights, Sharon Lerner is the author of The War on Moms: On Life in a Family-Unfriendly Nation, due out in May. She is a journalist who has covered a wide range of issues of concern to women for more than a decade. An award-winning journalist, Lerner has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, The Village Voice, The American Prospect, and other publications.

Sharon has received a National Headliner Award for her radio feature reporting and was a Senior Fellow at the New School. She is also the recipient of the 2005 Front Page Award for News Coverage, the 2005 Jane Cunningham Croly/GFWC Print Journalism Award for excellence in covering issues of concern to women; a special award from the Women and Politics Institute for coverage of women's issues post-9/11; and the Ray Brunner Science Writing Award from the American Public Health Association.

A former public radio producer, she has done broadcast coverage of mental health issues and also created a documentary about HIV-infected teens and young adults. She was a Senior Fellow at the Center for New York City Affairs at the New School, where she moderated panel discussions, wrote about urban policy, and taught journalism. She is also co-founder of PowderKeg, a writers space and non-profit organization committed to supporting professional and emerging women writers in Brooklyn, N.Y.

She has an undergraduate degree from Brown University and a Masters of Public Health degree from Columbia University. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two young sons. Sharon tweets from @fastlerner.
