Patricia (Tricia) DeGennaro is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Department of Politics where she teaches courses on international security, civilian and military relations and US foreign policy. In addition to her work as a professor, she is a Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute and a professional service provider and a subject matter expert on Afghanistan, the Middle East, the Arab Gulf States, Pakistan and Iran for the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command.
DeGennaro capitalizes on over fifteen years of experience as an international security and geopolitical consultant. She traveled to Iraq where she studied first hand the current military transition to civil authority. DeGennaro has also spent much of the last seven years working in Afghanistan on provincial governance, capacity building, parliamentary reform, joint interagency, intergovernmental and multinational coordination and policy reorganization with Afghan provincial governors and within the Office of the President of Afghanistan. She spends considerable time on field research in the Middle East, notably Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and the Occupied Territories.
During her tenure, she has consulted with the Asia Foundation, Director of National Intelligence Office, Department of Homeland Security, The Conference Board, World Bank, Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee chaired by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and several organizations that support the Middle East Peace Process. She also spent four years in Albania, initially as a Small and Medium Enterprise Consultant with the Peace Corps followed by a contract with the US Agency for International Development on Agra-business development.
She was recently chosen by The Women’s Media Center (WMC) as one of 33 participants for the Progressive Women’s Voices program which provides media and spokesperson training to connect media professionals with smart, media-savvy women experts.
DeGennaro publishes on various international security topics including democracy, nation building, political violence, interagency cooperation, civil-military affairs, and US foreign policy. She is an expert commentator for CNN, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, Fox News, BBC, RT Television and various syndicated radio programs. DeGennaro is also a regular columnist on the Huffington Post. DeGennaro holds an MBA in International Trade and Finance from George Washington University and an MPA in International Security and Conflict Resolution from Harvard University.
