Bio

Juli Briskman is a Loudoun County Supervisor who was the only Democrat to defeat a two-term, Trump-supporting incumbent in 2019 and help flip the County to a Democrat majority. Briskman was inspired to run for office after her story of a run-in with then President-Trump garnered international attention. She's been serving in the local office for two years championing equity, climate, local budget and land-use issues. Briskman proudly serves on the County Finance Committee, the joint School Board Committee, the Metro Washington Council of Governments Board of Directors and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. She remains active in local Democratic campaigns and intends to run for office again in 2023.

Briskman became internationally known in the Fall of 2017 when a photograph of her flipping off the Presidential motorcade while riding her bike went viral on social media and she was subsequently fired from her job with a Virginia-based government contractor.

Briskman, a former daily news journalist, believes this action was a direct result of autocratic capture or pressure on private individuals and organizations to praise and not criticize the power regime. This practice is un-American and violates our constitutional rights to free speech. Briskman sued her former employer under Virginia Public Policy, which protects our rights to free speech. Briskman, her attorneys, and supporting organization Protect Democracy, believed her case was strengthened by the fact that a male executive in the organization was not fired for racist comments on social media in apparent support of Donald J. Trump and against the Black Lives Matter movement.

The experience positioned Briskman as a spokeswoman for First Amendment rights and she has appeared on many national and international news outlets, including NPR's 1a, CNN, Headline News, MSNBC, BBC Radio, NBC's Megyn Kelly and Canadian and German TV. The story has been covered by almost every major national and international newspaper and Briskman's op-ed about why she is suing her former employer, Akima, LLC., appeared in The Washington Post and syndication.

Briskman, a single mother of two teenagers, is a former journalist, PR Director, and marketing manager. She holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism from the Ohio State University and MBA in Marketing from Johns Hopkins and a Digital Marketing Certificate from Georgetown University.
