Marilyn Katz is the founder and president of MK Communications. From her days as a student activist on the issue of the war in Vietnam and civil rights to the present, she has spent her entire adult life working for social justice and progressive policies on domestic and international issues. Ms. Katz has founded and led many groups, from the avant garde agit-prop group “WITCH” (Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy From Hell) the Chicago Women’s Union, Reproductive Rights National Network, Chicago Women Organized for Reproductive Choice in the 1960s and 1970s to the Chicagoans Against War in Iraq in 2002 which organized the October 2, 2002 rally at which President Barack Obama made his now-famous anti-war speech. While Ms. Katz’ early professional life was spent as a film maker, after serving as media and press consultant for Harold Washington’s unexpected 1983 mayoral win, Ms. Katz founded MK Communications, a full–service media, community and government relations company which represents numerous government, community, non-profit and philanthropic entities throughout the nation. Ms. Katz has written, produced and directed films, written, with others three books, “The Glass House Tapes” (with Citizens Research Action Committee) “Stopping War, Seeking Justice” (with Carl Davidson) and Talking Back and Acting Out (women negotiating the media, edited by Sandra Jackson and Anne Russo) one play “America In Review”, authored or co-authored numerous articles and is regularly featured in articles, tv programs and as a speaker on various talk shows. A fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago, Ms. Katz serves on numerous boards, including local community and corporate boards, Human Rights Watch Chicago and the national board of J Street. Adding yet another dimension to her full work and personal life, Ms. Katz recently became a certified pilates instructor, focusing her spotty but loving teaching, on adults over forty to ensure that people, particular women, grow older with strength, vigor and grace.
