Katherine N. Peele, FAIA, is Vice-President and Managing Principal of the Raleigh office of LS3P ASSOCIATES. With additional offices in Wilmington and Charlotte, NC and Charleston and Columbia, SC, LS3P is one of the Carolina’s largest architectural firms.

As principal architect for over 100 public school and higher education projects throughout the nation, Katherine has established her expertise in the design of educational facilities. Ms. Peele served as the 2001 national chair of the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education. Katherine was also a finalist for CEFPI’s “International Planner of the Year” in 2004. She has offered her expertise on a national level by assisting the U.S. Department of Education’s efforts to advance school construction throughout the country. Katherine conducted 23 radio interviews on behalf of the American Institute of Architects – the event included a total of 11 live and 12 taped interviews, which were carried on CNN Radio, Westwood One/Mutual/NBC Radio and UPI Radio. It is estimated that she reached an audience of 8.6 million listeners in 7 countries. Ms. Peele also was part of a nationally televised “Town Meeting” with US Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley on the topic of “Designs for Learning: Building Schools for the 21st Century.”

In 2003, Katherine was invested in the American Institute of Architect’s College of Fellows. In 2006, Ms. Peele was awarded “The Orthogonal Medal” from NC State University’s College of Education, for her “notable national contributions as an architect and leader in the design and advancement of educational facilities.” She also received the 2009 Dietrick Service Medal from AIA North Carolina, in recognition of her outstanding service to the profession. In 2009, she was named a “Woman Extraordinaire” by Triangle Business Leader magazine.
