Bio

Erin Markman is the Policy and Research Coordinator for the Human Rights Project at the Urban Justice Center. Her work focuses on evaluating the degree to which government policies and practices uphold international human rights standards, and equipping others to do the same. Erin has particular expertise in analyzing New York City government through a human rights lens. She is the two-time author of the Human Rights Project’s annual New York City Council Human Rights Report Card – a comprehensive evaluation of Council members’ legislative records across a range of human rights issues. Her work related to the New York City Council has been cited in numerous publications including the New York Daily News, the Amsterdam News, the Queens Times Ledger, MetroFocus, and DNA Info. Erin has designed and conducted human rights and policy trainings for a variety of audiences.

Erin graduated Cum Laude from Columbia University and earned a Masters in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social work, where she focused on community organizing and political advocacy.
