Bio

Dr. Shoshana Ungerleider is an internist practicing hospital medicine at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. She received her medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR and completed residency at California Pacific Medical Center where she is now on the teaching faculty and serves on the Foundation Board of Trustees. She has written article for Vox.com, KevinMD and been featured in STAT News. She interviews public figures regularly at the Commonwealth Club of California, the nations largest public affairs forum.

Shoshana is passionate about improving how seriously ill patients are cared for throughout the continuum of life. She is an expert in social media, design and innovation in palliative care as well as issues related to physician burnout and wellness. In 2016, she founded End Well Project, a national inter-professional convening of thought leaders on design and innovation to transform the end of life into a human-centered experience.

She funded Extremis, a short documentary about end of life decision making in the intensive care unit by Academy Award nominated director, Dan Krauss. The film world premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in April 2016 and won Best Documentary Short. The film was nominated for a 2017 Academy Award. She also co-sponsored the OpenIDEO design challenge to re-imagine end-of-life and Death Over Dinner: Healthcare Edition.
