Bio

Leslie Brooks is a clinical veterinarian, who graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 with both a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a Master in Public Health. While working in clinical practice, she established her own house call practice, traversing the Indianapolis community and providing in-home veterinary care to her clients' pets. While managing her innovative business, she also dedicated much of her time to growing a novel community-based non-profit in her community, which serves people experiencing homelessness or personal crisis who also have pets. Through this work, she has become an advocate for pet-friendly affordable housing, tracking data on the mental and medical health benefits that pets provide to disenfranchised individuals, and understanding best practices in breaking down the barriers that pets can sometimes cause when their owner is seeking health or housing needs for themselves. She works collaboratively and translationally with various professions through a One Health approach in doing this work. Dr. Brooks is adept at communicating science-based topics in understandable language and she has been interviewed multiple times by her local news station regarding the work she does and companion animal diseases.
