Yael Marom

Bio:

Yael is the Public Engagement Manager at Just Vision at Just Vision, a nonprofit that highlights the power and reach of Palestinians and Israelis working to end the occupation and build a future of freedom, dignity and equality. Yael engages Israeli press, bloggers and strategic community partners to bring nonviolent efforts to end the occupation and resolve the conflict into popular discourse in Israel. Before joining Just Vision, Yael served as spokesperson for Physicians for Human Rights – Israel. She managed a number of media campaigns, including: the campaign to free the Palestinian hunger striking administrative detainees in early 2012; the campaign against the torture camps in Sinai where refugees are imprisoned for ransom; the campaign to grant the status of "social residency" to people without official status in Israel (refugees, Palestinian women affected by the citizenship law and others); and a campaign against the use of the practice of isolation in Israeli prisons. Yael also served as the media point person of a recent campaign to reduce the profusion of light firearms in the Israeli public domain. Yael has been active in recent years in many struggles for freedom, equality, justice and human rights in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories for African refugees in Israel, for public housing, for workers’ rights, as part of the new trade union Koach La Ovdim – Democratic Workers’ Organization, and more. Yael is an Israeli presently living in Jaffa, near the stadium of her favorite soccer team – Hapoel Tel Aviv.
