She has reported stories of women and men who were raped and sexually violated in the Kenya’s post-election violence of 2007/08 at Journalists for Justice. She has also reported for The Hague-based Institute for War & Peace Reporting where she consistently covered Kenyan cases before the International Criminal Court and other international criminal justice issues. She has previously reported for Africa News, the Women’s International Perspective and the African Woman & Child Features Services in Nairobi. She offers communication support to survivors of sexual violence in Kenya and uses her Twitter handle @JJWangui to advocate for rape justice.
In the violence that rocked Kenya following the disputed elections of 2007, the media reported hundreds of cases of sexualized violence. Jane’s was one of them. Today, Jane grapples with HIV, trauma, and empty promises of reparation. Her husband was killed in the violence, but his body has never been found.
