Ariel Dougherty

Ariel Dougherty, who directs the Media Equity Collaborative, has 40 years of experience working for feminist media. As a producer and mentor she has stimulated and enabled thousands of women, especially, to step forward to tell stories in their own voices. As a co-founder of Women Make Movies (1969), she created one of the more sustaining organizations of the Women Liberation Movement. Now she has turned her attention to the vastly under funded broader field of women’s media, collaborating with several hundred media justice organizations to establish a sustainable funding arm that ensures long term growth of feminist media.
