The Women’s Media Center Live Talk Show with Robin Morgan To Be Broadcast on CBS Radio

September 27, 2012

For Immediate Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Women’s Media Center today announced that its weekly talk show with award-winning author, feminist leader and political analyst Robin Morgan will debut on a local CBS Radio station on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan, a progressive talk radio program with news, entertainment and commentary for women and enlightened listeners of both genders, will broadcast on 1580 AM Gov.Biz Radio in the nation’s capital.  The show will air Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to noon ET.

The Women’s Media Center is thrilled to join CBS, where Robin was actually a child star,” said Julie Burton, President of The Women’s Media Center. “In the U.S., women are only 29 percent of the total radio news force and are 13 percent of Talkers magazine’s ‘Heavy Hundred’ most important radio talk show hosts in America.  With Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan, we are glad to add a smart, funny, and compelling woman to the ranks of radio talk hosts.  We are committed to leveling the playing field for women and girls to make sure our audience of men and women hears the whole story.”

Guests for this Saturday’s show are Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize-winning nationally syndicated columnist; Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who represents the 9th congressional district in California; and Jane Fonda, actor, activist and co-founder of The Women’s Media Center.

CBS Radio is launching 1580 Gov.Biz. Radio on WNEW-AM on Oct. 1 with programming focused on government and business. In addition to Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan, the new format will feature a wide variety of programming from national and local sources and news organizations like “The Hill” plus financial news from Bloomberg Business and The Wall Street Journal.

Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan goes behind the cameras and between the headlines with fresh stories and voices rarely heard, a “safe house” where extraordinary guests—national and international, famous and not-yet famous — can dare to be honest.

Morgan discusses everything from politics to reproductive rights, from relationships to the arts, from global news to personal lives, with guests from across the spectrum — a mix of newsmakers and news media.

Says Morgan, author of 20-plus books, “Women’s Media Center Live will expose the real impact of male-dominated media on men as well as women—and on democracy itself. It will feature intelligent, lively discussion—but no yelling!¬—and will be witty, audacious, factual, moving, hilarious, informative, quotable—and fun. Join us in making media history!”

Jane Fonda is the voice of Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan, providing all of the station identifications and sponsorship announcements for the program. The show will have two broadcast homes: a studio in New York City—and a CBS studio in the Washington, D.C. area. The audience also will be able to hear the show via podcasts at
