Abortion Rights Advocate Reopening Dr. Tiller’s Clinic Is Guest on WMCLive
February 1, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Julie Burkhart, a former colleague and friend of the doctor murdered in Wichita four years ago, will be a guest Saturday on the CBS radio show, Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan.
Burkhart will discuss her nearly three-year journey to reopen the abortion clinic, why she continues on in spite of death threats, zoning battles and other enormous barriers. In, 2009, Dr. George R. Tiller, the former owner of the clinic, was shot and killed by an anti-abortion advocate. His clinic has been closed ever since.
“I just felt, at the end of the day, if we don’t continue to fight for what is right, and that is the right of women to be free, then I just didn’t feel like it was worth it,” she said.
Other guests on Saturday’s show, which marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, are New York Times columnist Gail Collins on women in journalism, and actor Debra Winger on her efforts to stop the practice of fracking for fuel.
