Basic Human Rights
What are you women truly fighting for?
What rights don’t you women have?
Basic human rights.
My consent for you to approach me and get to know me
Is a basic human right
My body does not define me
My clothes do not describe me
And your words are certainly not inviting
Feminism
We the people, for the people, by the people
Don’t they mean we the men, for the men, by the men
I would love to walk down the street
And not be whistled at like a dog
I would love to sleep with whomever I want and not be called a slut
You receive a pat on the back while I receive a text
Saying, “whore”
What makes any of this okay?
You feel content in your body
While I kneel on the bathroom floor above my toilet
Forcing my fingers down my throat so I can become a size zero
I wake up hours early to put my mask on
Why?
You say that’s my choice and I don’t “need” to do that
But if I didn’t id get comment after comment
Questioning why I’m “letting myself go”
You say we shouldn’t let your opinions bother us
But one after another it becomes a fucking nuisance
Its something we think about every night before bed
And every morning after we wake
Don’t you understand your comments are not just words
They’re a knife slicing us into a million pieces
Waiting for another one of you to come along and put the pieces back together
Only to find out they’re holding the same knife
I would love for you to feel the feelings I have felt
From the third grade
When I was told that because I am a woman
My dream of being president of these United States
Was not only comical but it also was idiotic
To just recently when I found out my friend was asking for it
Because she was intoxicated and was dressed provocatively
So they assumed she wanted it
It doesn’t work like that
Men are not as barbaric as they seem to be
In fact some men can be gentle and loving
But see it’s hard to find them when you are surrounded by the men who study your body
Before they even study your heart
Daughters; bring tears to your eyes
Wrapped in that pink blanket so small and innocent
Now why is it that men only see this
When it comes to their own flesh and blood
How dare you take the innocence away from someone else’s little girl
So bold and so absurd
What amazes me is that most men are oblivious to the actual issue
Us women are not just fighting for “rights”
Us women are fighting for BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS
Us women are fighting for humanity and equality
Let that sink in; think about the difference between you and me
And then ask yourself, what are you women truly fighting for
