Thank you, Rachel Maddow, for "Assassination of Dr. Tiller"
October 27, 2010
We commend Rachel Maddow for using her primetime platform to air her extremely illuminating documentary, “The Assassination of Dr. Tiller.” As Dr. Tiller’s legacy started to fade from the public consciousness and midterm elections threaten to leave women with fewer reproductive rights, such an undertaking is both timely and wholly necessary.
Her willingness to go where few media representatives will in the context of her immense influence should be commended as the courageous act that it is. As she did with the Gulf disaster by going to the Gulf herself, Maddow has used her considerable influence to bring attention to an issue that desperately needs it.
If the media took Maddow’s lead, we would be talking solely about the issues that matter rather than those that hold the most sensational appeal or can be shouted loudest— an example that more could afford to adopt.
We can already see the impact “The Assassination of Dr. Tiller” has had on her audience online and look forward to the overdue conversations and actions that will occur as a result. We are thrilled to have someone as capable as Rachel Maddow in the fight for reproductive rights, and thank her and MSNBC for producing such a groundbreaking project!
