Take Action on the 37th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade
January 22, 2010Friday, January 22, 2010 marks the 37th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade. Thirty-seven years ago, our Supreme Court ruled in favor if a woman’s right to choose and maintained that abortion must be available when needed to protect a woman’s health. We acknowledge this milestone with no misconception that the 1973 decision is protecting our reproductive health today. The Women’s Media Center and NotUnderTheBus.com oppose legislation that throws women under the bus with anti-choice restrictions, which both the House and Senate health care reform bills do. There are major fixes that need to happen, and we will continue to work to fix anti-woman provisions in health care. Our goal is to keep working to rescind the Hyde amendment and to pass the Freedom of Choice Act to guarantee reproductive justice to women. Each and every day, the Women’s Media Center and NotUnderTheBus.com are working to keep women’s health care fair, safe, and accessible to all. NotUnderTheBus.com calls on all women and men who support women’s equality to take the initiative, climb aboard and start driving the bus right down Pennsylvania Avenue to ensure our rights are protected. The fact that NotUnderTheBus.com exists is sobering proof that the landmark decision made 37 years ago was only the first step to ensuring our fundamental right to reproductive health care. Please, TAKE ACTION.
