NY Times Columnist References CNN OpEd by WMC Founders
| March 13, 2012
Frank Bruni has an OpEd in the New York Times today, "One-Way Wantonness," in which he points to the still-significant disparity between sexual slurs for women and for men. He discusses the truism that "'Gigolo' doesn’t have the acid or currency of 'whore,' and the man with bedpost notches gets compliments. He’s a Casanova, a conquistador."
Bruni explains that Rush Limbaugh's recent slurs against Georgetown University Student Sandra Fluke were not mere insults, but were speficially based on a sexual code that punishes women for suspected promiscuity. Bruni references the OpEd written by WMC Founders Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem published at CNN.com: "As Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan noted in a recent editorial for CNN.com, he has referred to female cabinet members as 'sex-retaries.'"
