Mother’s Day Campaigns 2010: Actions From Our Sister Organizations

May 6, 2010

Ms. Magazine and Feminist Majority: With a tax-deductible contribution of $35 or more, your mother’s name (or the name of another very important woman in your life) will be printed with your name in the Spring issue of Ms. Magazine.  It will be featured in a special section – called the Countdown to 2015 Campaign – promoting the empowerment of women and girls. Saving Mothers: Make a donation on your mother's behalf, and Saving Mothers will send her a custom greeting card thanking her for giving the gift of life and love.  When you purchase one of these cards, the full price is guaranteed to fund medical supplies and programs that currently help under-served women in Guatemala, Sierra Leone and Liberia gain access to vital obstetric and gynecological care. New Moon Girls: New Moon girls are reclaiming the meaning of the word "beauty."  They are asking for girls to honor moms, aunts, grandmas, sisters and friends by nominating them as Beautiful Girls, as determined by the inner beauty of their characters and actions.  The campaign runs from May 1 to June 30. National Women’s History Museum: At the National Women’s History Museum, you can buy your mother an apron to use while cooking, gardening, painting, or any number of ways and remind her of how much you honor the many ways she has cared for your family. Mothers of Lost Children: On Mother’s Day, Mothers of Lost Children will be holding a peaceful silent vigil in Washington DC at the White House to urge the President to stop the systematic removal and oppression of children by family court. Mothers and More: The Power of a Purse Mother’s Day Campaign is designed to raise awareness of mothers’ economic issues through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers in need. The purse symbolizes a woman's economic power, something Mothers and More wishes for all women, especially mothers in need. National Organization for Women (NOW): At NOW, you can honor the mothers in your life with their "Every Mother is a Working Mother" cards. Girls Learn International: Tribute donations can be made to honor Mother’s Day and send your Mother an ecard. Operation Smile: In honor of Mother’s Day and the mothers around the world awaiting their first special smile moment, you can share a message of how your mother makes you smile.   Do you know of any other 2010 Mother’s Day campaigns?  Leave us a comment!  And be sure to participate in WMC's Mother's Day video contest!  Celebrate mothers!  Celebrate choice!
