Miss Representation Campaign Director Job Posting

Miss Representation Campaign Director 6-Month Contract Position (with possibility of extension, based on success of campaign) Based in New York City Open Immediately

The Women’s Media Center (WMC) is a non-profit organization founded by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem to amplify women’s voices and change the conversation in the media. In our first five years, the WMC has identified and created four strategic pathways to the participation and representation of women in all aspects of media: 

1) promoting women as subjects and decision-makers within the media;

2) media training and leadership development to increase the number of women and girls who are media-ready and media-savvy;

3) creating new media and original content for both traditional and new media; and,

4) catalyzing a women’s media movement.

Women’s Media Center has partnered with the directors of the feature-length documentary film Miss Representation, to facilitate the distribution of the film and to create and conduct social outreach campaigns related to the film and its mission. Miss Representation explores women’s under-representation in positions of power and influence and challenges the limited and often disparaging portrayal of women in the media. We are searching for a dynamic campaign strategist with online organizing experience and excellent communication skills to lead our Miss Representation campaign outreach from our New York office.


-Serve as lead liaison with the Miss Representation team in partnership with the President

-Develop and execute high-impact, mission and opportunity driven campaigns

-Research and monitor priority issues and targeted officials and institutions

-Compose persuasive and timely email appeals and petitions

-Represent Women’s Media Center and Miss Representation to partner organizations

-Produce regular updates and reports for funders, board stakeholders, and the Miss Representation team related to campaign benchmarks, online metrics, and media engagement

-Oversee social media outreach for WMC’s Miss Representation campaigns


-Possess a four-year college or university degree

-3-plus years of experience spearheading online campaigns for mission-driven organizations

-Excellent organizational and managerial skills

-Commitment to women’s and progressive movements for social change

-Experience with coalition management and building strategic alliances

-Experience with developing campaign plans and rapid-response strategies

-Ability to write quickly, persuasively and meet deadlines

-Strong oral communication and presentation skills

-Proven success engaging the media

-Commitment to working with a diverse, high-energy, and dedicated team

- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including weekends and evenings

-Possess technological fluency. Microsoft Office, CRM/CMS, social media tools, Google Analytics, Wordpress, and database management required.

-Knowledge of Cision is a plus.

Compensation: This is a six-month campaign position, with a possible extension based on the success of the campaign.   Salary commensurate with experience.
