Liddy Sexism Towards Sotomayor Highlights Need for WMC
May 29, 2009

In the days following the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, Americans have received a barrage of racist, sexist, and generally insulting comments from those who oppose her. But G. Gordon Liddy used his radio show to demonstrate extraordinary bias and misogyny.
Liddy said, "Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when she's menstruating or something, or just before she's going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then."
We urge our supporters to go to www.womensmediacenter.com to read one of our Progressive Women's Voices participants, Erica Gonzales's insightful commentary about the sexist media coverage of Sotomayor. Tune into The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer tonight and check your local listings for PBS' To The Contrary this weekend to see another PWV-er Professor Emma Coleman Jordan provide substantive commentary on Sotomayor's nomination.
Please continue to support The Women's Media Center to make women visible and powerful in the media, as we continue to battle bias and inaccuracy.
