Inspiration for Latinas in Children's Media—Carmen Osbahr

April 28, 2009

As the nation’s pre-schoolers are increasingly in need of bilingual education, Carmen Osbahr, voice of “Rosita” on the beloved television show Sesame Street, is working tirelessly to fill the void.  Rosita’s character is the first regular bilingual Muppet on the show, not only teaching American pre-schoolers a bit of Spanish, but raising awareness about cultural differences and acceptance.  Atop of addressing this critical need, Osbahr’s success is opening doors for other Latinas who aspire to be puppeteers and make other significant contributions to the world of children’s educational programming. Sierra Freeman, from LatinaStyle Magazine 2007, who writes more on Osbahr and the significance of her accomplishments.
