Gender Equity in the Media and Entertainment Industry

Gender Equity in the Media and Entertainment Industry at the T. Howard Foundation (THF) Summer Intern Orientation.  This session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 5th at 9:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring, MD.

The T. Howard Foundation’s mission is to promote diversity in media and entertainment by increasing the number of diverse and underrepresented groups and underserved communities within the industry. One of the ways this is accomplished is via a comprehensive internship program for college students. Our interns are placed with over 40 major media companies including Viacom, HBO, Turner Broadcasting, CBS, Facebook and The New York Times.

Before they begin their internships, 100 students join the T. Howard Foundation for the 2 ½ day aforementioned Summer Intern Orientation to provide them with expert speakers, panel discussions, resources, and guidance. It is our goal to ensure that all THF interns understand the importance and value of maximizing their internship opportunity. The theme of this year’s Orientation is Voices.

Through the Gender Equity panel, interns will:

•       Learn more about why gender pay gaps still exist and what we can do to combat it

•       Identify ways in which the media and entertainment industry continues to struggle with issues of gender inequity

•       Examine strategies and steps panelists have seen or taken to ensure gender equity in their organizations and others

•       Understand ways in which men can play a role as promoters and allies of gender equity in the workplace
